This guide categorizes witches into three tiers: Natural Practitioners (like Hedge Witches and Feral Weavers), Elemental Witches (like the Salamandra), and Anomalies (like Alva herself and the Witch of Ages).
A significant portion of the book focuses on Alva’s life years later under the pseudonym Clara. Now a housewife married to Walter, she finds herself trapped in a mundane existence that she describes as “terribly repetitive and mundane”. The psychological horror deepens when she discovers her son, Fynn, has become a bully himself. In a moment of “cold, final sense of justice,” she kills him by feeding him a magical larva, using his soul as the initial energy source for a new, darker form of magic. Alongside her daughter Lily, she begins “harvesting” bullies from the region to power an army of monsters constructed from animal hides and human remains.
